10. longhand stroke =
Will

Happy 400th deathday…or should I say, Happy 400th Bardsday?

Sonnet 155

Shall I compare thee to a longhand stroke?
Thou art more lively and more passionate
Rough hands do make the dangling words a joke
And writer’s lease hath all too shy a rate
Sometime too few the eyes of critics find
And often are their old conceptions stark
And every sale from sale sometime declines
By chance, or publics’ changing taste of art
But thy eternal longhand shall not fade
Nor lose position on those fans thou owe’st
Nor shall death brag thou wanderst in his shade
When in eternal lives to Rhyme thou glow’st
So long lives this, and this gives life to we

Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate:
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer’s lease hath all too short a date:
Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,
And often is his gold complexion dimm’d;
And every fair from fair sometime declines,
By chance, or nature’s changing course untrimm’d;
But thy eternal summer shall not fade,
Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow’st,
Nor shall death brag thou wander’st in his shade,
When in eternal lines to time thou grow’st;
So long as man can breathe, or eyes can see,
So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.
